The Charleston SAME Post monthly meeting will be held at the North Towne Grille (2093 Eagle Landing Blvd., North Charleston, SC) on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:30 am. This month's meeting will feature Michael Cain, from Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung , speaking on "Engineers Without Borders" Most Post meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at North Towne Grill & Seafood, 2093 Eagle Landing Boulevard, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406-4074. The restaurant is across Rivers Avenue from the Northwoods Mall, near the Ashley-Phosphate Road exit from I-26 (Exit 209B). Programs from the last few meetings: 06/17/10 - LTC Jason A. Kirk, P.E., Commander, Charleston District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, "Charleston District, Army Corps of Engineers Programs". The District program is so full that LTC Kirk left out a video he'd wanted to present on the 25th anniversary of the St. Stephens Powerhouse.
05/13/10 - Jeffrey A. Mosher, PE, PBAmericas, spoke about the replacement/renovation of the Ben Sawyer Bridge between Mount Pleasant and Sullivans Island, SC. The bridge became famous nation-wide following Hurricane Hugo in 1989 when it was separated from its abutments but not the center pier. It was very photogenic, resting with one end in the AIWW and the other in the air. In 1989, the bridge was critical because it was the only link to either Sullivans Island or Isle of Palms. At that point, the Corps was able to restore the bridge, but after twenty years of significant population growth in the area, the narrow two lane span was inadequate. The recent project widened the bridge and addressed pedestrian/bicycle traffic as well. The project had to maintain the historic design and the swing function. It also had to be completed in within the 168 hour to minimize traffic impacts. The resulting design is wider and has been brought up to current safety and mechanical standards. 04/29/10 - Young Member Social and walking tour with Jerry Regenbogen, a Principal in the Planning and Landscape Architecture division of Stantec, of the Low Impact Development and Streetscape features at Park Circle and Montague Avenue. The walking tour back at Sesame Burgers for food and drinks.
04/15/10 - Jason Shiflet, Zapata Engineering, gave a presentation on "Site Characterization and Source Delineation of Co-Mingled Trichloroethene (TCE) Plume at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, OK".
